Why Everyone Needs a Mentor Like Jim Rohn

“Every great achiever is inspired by a great mentor.” ― Lailah Gifty Akita

This post is written to provide you with an account of how seeking a mentor can have a positive and long lasting impact on your life.  Based on my own personal journey you will gain an insight on my relationship with online mentors, such as Jim Rohn.

The Last Six Years

My life has changed in many ways over the last six years.  I have maintained positive changes in my daily routine and habits.  It hasn’t been easy, but I  have stopped smoking.  Now I regularly keep my body hydrated and I’ve started exercising again. Admittedly, in terms of my eating habits I’ve had some days where there is room for improvement.  However, on the whole I’ve stayed focused on maintaining a healthier lifestyle.

One of the main changes I’ve consistently kept up with starts at the beginning of my day.  In my old life breakfast time was not part of my daily routine.  I needed guidance to help me understand the importance of good nutrition first thing in the morning.  During the last five years my Mentors Katrina and Jo have respectively, encouraged and inspired me to continue working towards a healthier way of living.  Overall the progress I’ve made has been great for my self esteem, confidence and my waistline has reduced of course!

ElizabethMy family is my world.  I am part a massive clan spanning several generations.  Over the last six years there has been many additions within my extended and immediate family.  I am pleased to see the legacy of my Grandparents living on.  In their lifetimes both of my Grandmothers became my mentors and personal advisers.

To my surprise I became a Grandmother myself two years ago.  I am delighted, as our Princess Elizabeth is very loving, caring and intelligent.  She brightens up my world and has given me a very different perspective on life.  I aim to learn more and achieve my goals to help more people become healthier and happier.  Achieving this I will elevate me to become a great mentor to Elizabeth as she begins to put her mark on the world.

Finally, over the last six years I’ve lived in two cities and one small town.  In doing so, I’ve had numerous full time jobs.  Unfortunately, some of these opportunities were much better than others.  In the time period discussed I  didn’t meet any outstanding leaders within the workplace I could call a mentor to guide me through my career. Thankfully, after many bumps and overcoming some rather stressful situations I’ve been blessed in 2017 to work with an incredible team. In this new and engaging environment I am surrounded by many people who mentor others as part of their academic role.

Celebrating my birthday with new friends in Portugal, 2017

So there have been improvements and new opportunities presented to me over the last six years.  Thankfully,  three key areas of my life have helped me become a become a better person.  Firstly,  after nearly six years together, Mark and I are closer than ever.  We’ve been blessed to start travelling the world, meeting new people and having lots of fun!

This may not sound like a huge deal to some people. However, after surviving a rather troubled childhood and teenage years.  I found forming and maintaining intimate relationships very hit and miss in my twenties and early thirties.  Thankfully relationship mentors have helped me make improvements in this area of my life.

Secondly, my passion and determination to start and grow my own successful enterprise  has remained constant.  When Mark and I met in 2011, my second business venture had literally collapsed!  I was broken.  Sadly, my self-esteem and belief in myself was ripped into shreds, again.  However, his love, patience and support has helped me rebuild and reinvent myself from the inside out. Finally, despite my depression and disbelief in my abilities I continued to be guided by my trusted mentors.

The Next Six Years

Jim Rohn

My personal mentor, Jim Rohn.

The role of a mentor is to show you the way based on their own knowledge and experiences.  Sadly, I did not get to meet this great man in person before his passing in 2009.  However,  the mentor who has had the most profound impact on my life is Jim Rohn. This incredible business man, author and motivational speaker has left humanity with an incredible legacy.

“For more than 40 years, Jim Rohn honed his craft like a skilled artist—helping people the world over sculpt life strategies that expanded their imagination of what is possible”Success Presents Jim Rohn

The wisdom, philosophies and teachings Jim Rohn shared throughout his career have positively touched and changed the lives of millions of people, including mine.  If you’re not familiar with his work I’d urge you to spend some time either reading or listening to his very important message.  I have a lot to thank Jim Rohn for as he has taught me things about life I have never been told.  One of the areas he successfully mentored me on is the importance of maintaining good health and nutrition.  After listening to Jim’s advice in this area I was indirectly introduced to my own Wellness Coach/Mentor Katrina.

Jim Rohn also showed me the value of personal development.  At the time I purchased “A Challenge to Succeed” I was a single parent, so I probably needed the money for something else.  Looking back I am pleased I listened to my inner voice.  The small investment I spent on my personal development really has shaped my future in so many positive ways. Finally, his message has helped me understand why I should study wealth; so that I can help as many people as I can.  If you know you deserve more from life and are seeking guidance you will  find lots of his audio and written material online.

Jim Rohn has shown me the importance of having good mentors in your life.  Since 2009,  I have worked directly with mentors on a one to one basis, such as Katrina and followed people online who have guided me on different subjects, such as marketing, finance and personal development.  I now read specialist books and listen to audio CDs in my car and at home.

If you want to be successful you have to be prepared to learn from people who have succeeded in the area of life you are interested improving. Now I regularly listen to the teachings of online mentors such as Mark Hughes, Tony Robbins, Grant Cardone, Robert Kiyosaki, Gloria Mayfield Banks, Dani Johnson and Bernadette Doyle to name but a few.

“A mentor enables you to view things in a new way and from a new perspective.  They can promote changes in you, helping you towards a new vision of what is possible” – John Ardern, Really Useful Research & Development Consultancy
